Greetings all. I've been lurking for about a year
now and figured its about time I did the bio thing.
My name is Kevin and I started woodworking about
4 years ago. Well, wood *working* might be a
stretch. Like many others, I've got about 5
projects in various states of incompleteness
and almost no time to spend in the shop. My
interest in oldtools is from a user point of
view, although by tracking the actual amount of
time I've spent making shavings lately you'd
probably be justified in calling me a collector.
I've put together a nice set of tools, including
a few doubles because I couldn't resist. I'm a
big fan of flea markets and auctions, but I've
made a few purchases on FMM too. Can't think of
any more tools that I *need*, but that hasn't
slowed me down much.
Some confessions: I have several p*w*r t**ls. I
enjoy both p*w*r and hand tools, though I can
see myself heading toward using hand tools more
frequently. I like Norm, Roy, and FWW.
I can't keep up with all the notes OLDTOOLS.
Sometimes I have to skip a couple of weeks or so,
but I regularly check-out FMM and I also try to
keep up when there is an interesting thread. For
now, I like the how-to and how/why-things-work
threads (ex. workbench debate, Norris Schmorris,
etc.) more than historical stuff.
That's about it. My next project is a bench, and
even though I'll use a few p*w*r* t**ls in its
construction, I hope to share a picture of the
final product sometime in the fall (right now its
a pile of stickered lumber in my back yard).
Thanks, and I'll try to contribute when I can,
but for now I think I'm more on the receiving end
of the neat info in OLDTOOLS.
