-82 DBroman@a... 1970‑01‑01 bio and Re: The Woodwright's Shop

Quick bio from a newbie: I'm not a pro woodworker.....not even a very good
amateur....but I love the tools. I'm a radio broadcaster by trade. Married. 2
kids. Age 42. A bald-headed young coot. I don't buy many tools, or expensive
ones, but prefer tools that I can at least try to use (which is a lot easier
to justify to Mrs. Galoot). I got into it first when I realized I couldn't
afford all the Norm-ite stuff that everyone said I was "supposed" to have.
Then realized that there is a much more spiritual and artistic side to old
tool craftsmanship than I ever realized.

Here's my take on Roy's apparent lack of craftsmanship.....

I've always figured he's really a tool historian, or maybe a tool
sociologist, rather than a woodworker. He wants to show how things were done
once upon a time, and how they've changed over the years. Craftsmanship is
secondary. I also think his own primary woodworking interest is in building
construction and restoration, rather than furniture. Does that ring a bell
with anyone?
