124821 "Geoff Barker - Energetix Group" <geoff.barker@e...> 2003‑11‑27 My Bio - Geoff
One and all,

As I have been watching the learning from the porch debates for some
time now, accruing many thousands of emails, I thought it appropriate to
send in my bio. I hail from the British Isles, rapidly approaching 40
and live in the county of Cheshire. I am a graduate of Liverpool
University Engineering Department and my daytime is occupied running a
small energy technology development company, product development and
stuff. I try a find time for the craftsmen in me when the sun has gone
down and all is quiet in the children's bedrooms.

I began my interest in woodworking tools when I used to visit my
Grandmothers shop which always contained children's joiner's kits at
Christmas. My father regularly bought my brother and me bags of nails
and we duly hit them into all manner of rough wooden articles.

I progressed through renovating old furniture to recently building
myself a real heavyweight bench, (this was the point at which I found
"oldtools" thanks to the many excellent bench web pages of those who
regularly contribute here).

My progression to using old hand tools has been a slow one, moving from
tailed apprentices to new hand tools and now recognizing old hand tools
offer in many cases more than the new ones. My problem is finding the
right source of old tools at the right price. Whilst I have looked at
Jeff's UK list I read of the many gloating buys for a few $ and wonder
if I'm missing out somewhere.

Happy Thanksgiving to most from across the sea.

Geoff Barker
