210334 Mike Siemsen <mike@g...> 2010‑12‑02 bio. update
Fellow Galoots,
I thought I wold update my bio since it has been a couple of years.
My father was born in a sod house in 1912 in the territory of Wyoming
and my mother was born in 1923 in a log cabin in North Central
Minnesota. My parents had kids when they were a little on the older side
so our family kind of skipped a generation. I had depression era parents
who had learned to work with horses and hand tools and had to do
everything for themselves due to economic hardship. A lot of this
information was passed along to me.
I have been making things from wood since I was in the First grade. I
found a pattern for a small wall shelf and decided to make it. My dad
took me to a hardware store and bought a blade for the coping saw frame.
We stopped behind the grocery store where he selected a fruit crate for
my materials. I have been making things ever since. I have my own shop
where I work at woodworking and selling clock movements< www.greenlakeclock.com
>. I have worked as a carpenter, cabinet-maker and
antique restorer. I live in Minnesota I have a 19-year-old son and
16-year-old daughter. I enjoy a good beer and a well told tale. I have a woodwor
king school here in Minnesota, while there will be
electrons used there will be plenty of hand work too,
www.schoolofwood.com, tell your friends! I enjoy making and modifying
tools and machines for my use. I am currently working on an Early 19^th centu
ry lathe, replacing the missing treadle. I sometimes make my own handsaws and ch
isels as well as other tools. I am Minnesota Chapter Secretary for The Society
of American Period Furniture Makers, I am active in the local M-WTCA and Minneso
ta Woodworkers Guild. If you have attended the WIA conference than you may have
seen me running the hand tool Olympics. I look forward to some time on the
porch with the rest of you cud chewing, lemonade swilling, rocker riders.
Rest easy,
Mike Siemsen
Chisago City, MN

My son's piano teacher had this question at the end of an e-mail, I
think it fits all of us.
Have you practiced today?
