276099 Tony Seo 2022‑08‑08 FS: August Apples 2022 Chapter 1
One week into the month of August.  Had a run of hot and humid and it's
going to continue for a few more days at the least. Pickings have been
slow, but steady.  There are some great collectible and as always, fresh
solid user tools as well.

PayPal is preferred (if you use it) on all items. It's easier for me to

ship items off of a paid PayPal invoice, especially First Class ones.

Checks and money orders are still welcome.

And remember........da more ya buy, the cheaper they fly!

First contact (that is e-mail, or phone) that says I want it gets it.
Prices do not include shipping.  All items are shipped with Delivery
Confirmation. Insurance, unless it is a big order or a very fragile item
is optional. Just let me know. Also, I am shipping a lot more stuff via
First Class mail. There will be a small amount added to the shipping
cover the cost of the padded mailer. I don't get them for free.

Please put your name and address in the message. Saves time and email
traffic!

Model 1912 US Cavalry Picket Pin & Farriers Tool.  The tool is 13 5/8"
long, the sheath is 13 5/16" long, and this all weighs 1 lb 12 1/2 oz
unboxed.  The tool has some letters and numbers, probably an issue
number under the head.  This is in reasonably good condition for the age
and use and was cleaned.  The tool has a few spots of light pitting.
The hammer face has some dings, light pitting, and a few small chips on
the underside.  The top has some dings and a whisker of mushrooming.
The claws are good.  This does have a very slight bend looking from the
side.  The sheath is stiff and has some staining, mainly on the back.  I
did hit that with some oil of Neatsfoot but it could stand a little
more.  All the stitching looks to be original and is good.  The straps
are also stiff, but they are solid.  The tool doesn't fit all the way
down into the sheath so the top strap doesn't lock, but I ain't gonna
force it.  I gotta say, while I get the tools from time to time, finding
one with the original sheath sure ain't getting any easier. $100

P Merrill Cast Steel 4 Inch Barn Builders Slick Chisel.  Measuring 15
1/4" from the edge to the end of the socket, the blade is 8 1/8" long,
4" wide across the edge, the steel bit is 5 1/4" deep down the center,
less on the sides, this is 28 5/16" overall (as pictured), and this
weighs 3 lbs 14 1/2 oz unboxed.  The mark is partial, but it looks like
P. Merrill which would be Pliny Merrill who was a Hinsdale NH edge tool
marker and worked from 1844 until 1868.  This is in decent condition and
was cleaned.  There is some pitting on the back for the first 1 1/4",
after that, there are a few spots, but it's fairly clean.  The wrought
iron body also has some patina on the back and the front.  The socket
has some light pitting, but was never struck.  The handle is original to
the tool.  That has some funky on the tip, it looks like it was wrapped
with cloth tape to keep it in the socket.  There are some thin grain
checks on the sides, and the usual stains and dings, but it's solid
enough to use.  This sure ain't minty, but it ain't like these big ones
show up every day either.  $165.00

Dunlap 8 Inch Draw Knife Or Drawknife.  Measuring 15" overall, the blade
is 8 1/8" long, 1 1/4" wide across the edge, a little less at the ends,
and this weighs 1 lb 1 oz unboxed.  Dunlap was one of the brand names
used by Sears on their tool lines.  This has the BV mark on the back so
I'm guessing that this was made by Sargent for them. This is in
reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  The steel area of the back
has some staining and a little frosting, but nothing bad at all.  The
iron frame has a little frosting.  The top and edge are both good.  The
front does have some small spots of light pitting and patina.  The
handles both have the original finish.  They have some dings and the one
has a small chip on the back side, but both are solid and on tight.  The
one ferrule has some wear to the plating and some frosting as do the end
caps.  This ain't pristine, but it's a good looking tool that will get
the job done.  $40.00

Fairmount No 155 Auto Body Hammer.  Measuring 15 5/8" overall, the head
is 9" long, the front face is 2 3/16" wide, 1 3/16"  high, the back face
is 1 1/4" high, 1 5/8" wide, and this here bad boy weighs 4 lbs 1 1/4 oz
unboxed.  This isn't signed, but few of these were, at least the earlier
ones.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  There
ain't much in the way of patina overall on the head.  The front face has
a few very light dings and a little frosting.  The back face also has
some light dings and there are a few small chips around the edges.  The
handle looks to be original to the tool.  That also has some dings and
stains, but it's solid. This ain't minty, but these guys sure have been
few and far between of late.  $50.00

Vintage Mac Tools Auto Body Hammer.  Measuring 11 3/4 overall, the head
is 5 1/4" long, the faces are 1 5/16" and 1 13/16" in diameter, and this
weighs 1 lb 4 1/4 oz unboxed.  The mark is on the side of the handle.
This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned. The head overall
is good.  Both faces have some tiny dings, wear, and the small one does
have some spots of light pitting.  The handle has some dings and stains,
but it's solid.  This ain't pristine, but it's a quality tool that will
get the job done.  $30.00

Early Hand Forged Carpenters Claw Hammer Head.  Measuring 5 5/8" long,
the face is roughly 1 1/16" wide, 15/16" high, the claws are 1 5/8"
wide, and this weighs 1 lb 8 1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the
maker.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There is some
overall pitting and patina.  The face has a ding on the center, there is
some chipping around the edge, and the start of some mushrooming.  The
tips of the claws also have some mushrooming, but the inside edges are
fairly good.  The square punched eye has some crusty on the inside, but
it's solid.  This ain't pretty or perfect, but these old dawgs rarely
are.  $17.00

Brades England Carpenters Hatchet.  Measuring 13 5/8" overall, the head
is 6 13/16" long (across the center), the edge is 2 3/8" high (straight
across), and this weighs 1 lb 8 1/4 oz unboxed.  Brades was a long time
English tool maker.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There
are some areas of pitting on both sides of the head.  The edge will need
a little work.  The cross hatching on the hammer face has some wear.
The eye looks to be good.  The handle is a replacement.  That has some
dings and stains, but it's solid. This ain't minty, but tools by this
maker sure do not show up very often.  $18.00

L S Starrett No 132 6 Inch Bench Level.  This weighs 12 1/4 oz unboxed.
This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There is some wear to the
finish on both sides.  There is a chip on the top and some scuff marks
from the early being dressed.  The base has some frosting and one small
spot of pitting.  The clear level vial on the top is good as is the one
side vial.  The other vial, the glass is there, but the liquid is gone.
This sure ain't pristine and it sure ain't perfect, but it will get the
job done.  $22.00

Vintage 4 Inch Rosewood Handle Try Square.  This weighs 3 3/4 oz
unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This is in decent condition and
was cleaned.  The blade has some frosting and light patina on both
sides.  The rulings are faint, but readable.  The edges and corners are
good.  The handle has some dings and a few light chips on the end.  This
is true according to my reference square.  This ain't perfect and it
ain't got a fancy name, but it is an older tool that will get the job
done.  $15.00

condition and was cleaned.  There is some overall pitting and patina.
The edge is a little rough and will need a touch up.  The hammer poll
has some mushrooming.  The punched eye is good to go.  This ain't the
prettiest, but it's a solid tool that will get the job done.  $18.00

long, the jaws are 3 5/8" deep, and this weighs 2 lbs 2 3/4 oz unboxed.
The name plate is faint, but some of it can be read.  This is in
reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  The finish is original and
is good, save for some dings and a couple of funky spots.  The jaw is
good as is the anvil.  The joint is also good with no play.  This ain't
minty, but it's a solid old tool that will get the job done.  $25.00

oz unboxed.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.
There are some light dings and patina on both sides of the head.  The
jaws have a little wear at the ends of the tips, but the teeth are good
save for some tiny dings.  The wire cutters also have some dings on the
outer edges, but the insides are good.  The joint is good.  This ain't
pristine, but it's a heavy duty quality tool that will get the job
done.  $15.00

1/2 oz unboxed.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned. There is
some overall frosting and light pitting on the blade and the handle.
The blade edges and corners are good.  The handle has a couple of tiny
dings on the edges.  This is dead true according to one of Mr. Moore and
Mr. Wright's fine squares that I have here for such occasions.  This
sure ain't minty, but it is a quality tool that will get the job done.

frosting as well.  The jaw tips are good.  The hammer poll has some
light mushrooming.  The wire cutter is good as is the staple pulling
claw.  The joint has a little wiggle.  The handles are good save for

1 3/16" at the center, and this weighs 1 lb 3 3/4 oz unboxed.  This is
in decent condition and was cleaned.  One of the flea market artists had
painted the metal parts with flat black and the handles with battleship
gray, sigh.  The steel bit has a couple of small spots of light pitting
and some frosting, but overall nothing too bad.  The edge will need a
quick touch up.  The wrought iron frame has some pitting on both sides.
There are some dings on the top, but none of them travel to the back.
Both of the black walnut handles have some paint residue down in the
grain and some wear, and the right one has some notches filed on the
back for some reason, but both are solid and are on tight.  This ain't

Stanley No 12TS 12 Inch Try Square.  This weighs 1 lb 4 3/4 oz unboxed.
This was made by Stanley during the early 1960's "Blue" era for use in
trade and vocational schools.  This is in reasonably good condition and
was cleaned.  The blade has some light spots of pitting and frosting,
but overall it's clean for the most part.  The edges and corners are
good.  The machined surfaces of the handle have some dings and a little
frosting.  I did remove most of a patch of green paint on the lower part
of the front of the handle, but there still is a little bit on there.
Other than that, the finish is good.  This ain't minty, but it will get

FOUR Wooden Molding Mitre Bench Hooks.  They range in length from 5 7/8"
to 7 3/4", the sizes range from 1/2" to 1", and they weigh 6 3/4 oz
unboxed.  The first two are mahogany, the third one is oak, and the last
one is beech.  The first one has a user name, the last one has a size
mark, but there are no maker's marks.  These are in reasonably good
condition and were cleaned.  All were made from single sections of
wood.  There is a little wear, but overall nothing too bad.  The first
one has some glue residue along the molded section and the third one has
some dots of paint that didn't want to come off.  Other than that, these
guys are right nice. These are very uncommon bench tools and great
collectibles to say the least.  $85.00

Routledge & Son were Birmingham England tool dealers who were in
business from 1876 until 1944.  This is in reasonably good condition and
was cleaned.  This was made from beech.  There are a few small stained
spots and the screw heads have a little rust, but overall nothing too
bad.  The inside is good save for a little light dinging at the one
end.  I didn't try the screws, but the two sections are tight.  I gotta
say that these guys rarely show up over here.  $28.00

handle, 10 7/8 overall, and they weigh 1 lb 1 3/4 oz unboxed.  The No. 7
is marked Austria, the rest are unsigned, but these look like ones sold
by Sculpture House.  These are in reasonably good condition and were
cleaned.  The insides of the sweeps are all good, the fishtail does have
a small patch of light pitting up by the edge.  All of edges will need a

of the handle, the blade is 3 5/8" long, 7/16" wide across the inside of
the sweep, 9/16" across the outside, this is 10 9/16" overall, and this
weighs 3 1/4 oz unboxed.  This is in reasonably good condition and was
cleaned.  The inside of the sweep has some light frosting and patina,
but overall nothing too bad.  The back is clean and the edge is good.
The brass ferrule does have a partial check.  The handle has a little
roughness on the striking end, but it's solid.  This ain't perfect, but
it's a quality tool that will get the job done.  $17.00

L S Starrett No 79 6 Inch Yankee Pattern Outside Caliper.  Measuring 7
1/16" long and this weighs 3 oz unboxed.  This is in decent condition
and was cleaned.  There is some frosting on the legs, user initials, and
some light pitting down by the tips.  The spring and tips are good, save
for the patina.  The nut travels the full distance smoothly.  This ain't
the prettiest, but it is a quality tool that will get the job done.  $17.00

R Timmons & Sons No 0 Cobblers Lasting Pliers.  Measuring 7" long, the
jaws are a little under 1/4" wide at the tips, and this weighs 7 3/4 oz
unboxed.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There is some
overall pitting and patina.  The jaws have some wear to the teeth, but
there still is plenty there to work with.  The hammer poll is good save
for some light pitting.  The through the center style joint has a little
play.  This size never had a tack claw on the end.  This ain't minty,
but these guys have sure been few and far between of late.  $22.00

C Nickum Hand Forged Millwrights Mill Pick Head.  Measuring 8 1/8" long,
the edges are 1 1/2" wide, this is 15/16" high at the center. and this
weighs 1 lb 15 1/4 oz unboxed.  I can't find any thing about this
maker.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  There is
a little overall patina.  The edges would need a dressing, but are good
with no chips.  The punched eye is good to go.  This ain't minty, but
it's a good example of this style of tool.  $22.00

long, the face is 1 1/2" in diameter, the peen is 1 5/8" wide, and this
weighs 1 lb 1 oz unboxed.  Marked as shown.  This is in decent condition
and was cleaned.  There is a little overall light patina, but this guy
was never finished off real pretty like to start with. The face does
have some dings, a couple of small chips off of the top, and the start
of some mushrooming.  The peen also has some dings and wear.  The eye is
good to go.  This ain't minty, and it sure ain't pretty, but it will get
the job done.  $25.00

Mossberg 1895 Patent Model C Pocket Wrench.  Measuring 5" long and this
weighs 5 oz unboxed.  Frank Mossberg of Attleborough, MA was granted
Pat. No. 552,325 on Dec. 31, 1895 for the design of this tool.  This is
in decent condition and was cleaned.  There is some frosting on the
front and some light pitting on the back.  The jaws have some dings on
the edges and only close down to 1/16".  They do open fully and I did
put a drop of oil down on the nut.  This ain't minty, but tools like
this rarely are.  $15.00

5/8" long, the jaws are 1 15/16" deep, a little under 1/8" wide at the
tips, and this weighs 5 oz unboxed.  This is in reasonably good
condition and was cleaned.  There is some light wear and staining. The
jaws are good and the cross hatching at the tips is also good. Somebody
did some pin punching at some point to tighten up the joint and that is
good with no play.  This does have the patterns on the outsides of the
handles.  This ain't minty, but it is a quality tool that will get the
job done.  $19.00

reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  There is some overall light
patina, but nothing too bad.  The lead screw, spur, and cutters are
good.  The tang has some wear on the edges, but there is enough there to
be used.  This ain't perfect, but these bigger ones sure ain't getting
any easier to come by.  $18.00

Early Hand Forged Farriers Buttress.  Measuring 17 3/4" long (straight
across), the head is 1 1/2" wide across the edge, and this weighs 1 lb 4
1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This is in decent
condition and was cleaned.  There is some overall light pitting and
patina.  The cutting side of the head has some frosting and a little
pitting, but nothing too bad.  The edge is fairly good save for a ding
on the one side.  The handle has some dings, stains, and thin checks,
but it's solid, and on tight.  This ain't the prettiest, but then it
wasn't made to do a pretty job in pretty places either.  Just saying.

Whitcher Patent 1880 Shoe Makers Measuring Stick.  Measuring 17 3/8"
long and this weighs 5 oz unboxed.  William H. Varnum of Cambridge, MA
was granted Pat. No. 226,429 on April 13, 1880 for the design of this
tool which was made by Frank W. Whitcher & Co of Boston, MA (working
dates from 1873 until 1905).  This is in decent condition and was not
cleaned.  There is some water damage to the rule on the top at the fixed
head and it is cracked there.  The fixed head has some wear on the
outside and the movable head has some chipping at the top.  That does
travel the full distance and the locking button works.  The outer plates
have some light patina.  The scales and rulings are all readable and
this is straight.  There is a child size scale on the one side in
addition to the adult size scale on the top.  This does have some
issues, but these guys sure do not show up very often.  $35.00
