276105 Kevin Foley <kevin.foley.135@g...> 2022‑08‑08 Re: Price insanity
The Lie Nielsen thing adds another level to the craziness. IIRC LN set out to
reproduce some useful tools that had become rare and expensive collector’s
pieces, therefore unavailable to woodworkers The prices realized on some of
the LN repros are surpassing the antique originals. I listed and older LN item
on the ‘lectric landfill, it ended up in a bidding war and the final price was a
little north of 5x what I paid for it new. I was waiting for the other shoe to
fall. I figured the winner bid too much and was going to back out. I hoped he
would just ask and not want to do a bogus return after shipping it. But no. He
couldn’t have been happier to get it at the wildly inflated price.

It’s easy to find a Stanley 10 1/4 for less than an LN. The LNs are fetching
big prices which is strange because it’s on hold, not discontinued. It’s just a
matter of waiting.

Kevin in Chantilly where the dog bolted out the door, did one high speed lap of
the steamy back yard and right back in.
