276156 Tony Seo 2022‑08‑15 Madison Bouckville NY Antique Week Aug 2022 Day 2
Today was the second day of my annual trip up to the Madison Bouckville NY
Antique Week. Yesterday we started off at the west end of Route 20, today was
the eastern end at Quaker Acres and Eden across the road.

Like yesterday there were tools out early, but too rich for my blood.

There are lots of tents and you pretty much have to pick through each one.

This is the start for almost 1/4 mile of connected or close circus style tents.

And the weather was just gorgeous, for a spell..

But then the maybe, maybe not rain, came in fairly steady with the usual sound
effects.

My "5 1/2 hours of walking" and now it's raining face.

Pickings today were much better than yesterday. There was still lots of
overpriced nonsense going on, but I was able to drop a fair amount of cash and
load up with a good knapsack and 1/2 of tools. Brace yourselves, there is a
Stanley No 921, 10" sweep, an unplated bitstock that needs some work, but the
chuck is good, a Taylor patent iron bitstock that also needs a cleaning, and the
best of the lot, is a North Bros No. 2100 12 Inch Yankee brace that just needs a
wee bit of TLC.

I got a pretty nice railroad track anvil, a Stanley SW 6 inch bevel square, a
Stanley V-Logo No 90 marking gage, Starrett divider, leather belt punch, a sweet
small saw, set 4 Millers Falls carving tools, a cobbler's tool, a small shoulder
peen hammer, a nice Lignum Vitae mallet, a cooper's hoop driver, and a Plumb
ball peen hammer.

The next batch (and these aren't in purchase order, I'm just running out of
picture room in the beast,) includes a Stanley SW No. 52 spokeshave, a Stanley
No. 63 and 64 spokeshave, a Stanley infilled try square, a neat patented ruler
tool, marking gage, a vintage brass drafting protractor, a Millers Falls outside
caliper, a Stanley No. 101 block plane, a pair of round leather punches hand
forged from old files, a saw sharpening wrest also forged from a file, a neat
small hand forged hammer, and a tool maker's vise, probably a Starrett, that
needs a wee bit of cleaning.

Last of the tool pics for today, there is a small turnscrew, an oddball sawset,
a gun stock file, a Marples patternmaker's gouge, a chisel and a gouge, a
Stanley No. 42X sawset that just needs some detailing, an Osborne leather edger,
chisel and another patternmaker's gouge, a couple of other oddball sawsets, a
Stanley 1 1/4 inch No 750 chisel, and a Starrett No 92 extension divider.

One more day left, so we shall see what tomorrow does or does not bring.

Tony,

You've mentioned high antique tool prices in both your reports on the 2022
Madison-Bouckville sale.

In your opinion, does this have "anything to say" about the trend in antique
tool prices in general? Is it only really old stuff like goose wing axes that is
going high, or does the trend include early mass-produced items like Bailey
planes?

BTW: The hammer and the short hacksaw in the seventh photo do indeed look sweet!
