277073 Tony Seo 2023‑03‑06 FS: Marching March 2023 List 1
First run of tools for March.  While spring is on the horizon, winter
still has not completely left the building either.  The fleas have been
pretty light tool wise the past few weeks and my regulars haven't been
turning up much as well, but there are some fresh goods for you to
peruse on here.  I'll be heading out on the road to Damascus early
Friday for dealer setup.   The weather down there keeps flip flopping,
but as of now Sat is looking good.

PayPal is preferred (if you use it) on all items. It's easier for me to
ship items off of a paid PayPal invoice, especially First Class ones.

Checks and money orders are still welcome.

And remember........da more ya buy, the cheaper they fly!

First contact (that is e-mail, or phone) that says I want it gets it.
Prices do not include shipping.  All items are shipped with Delivery
Confirmation. Insurance, unless it is a big order or a very fragile item
is optional. Just let me know. Also, I am shipping a lot more stuff via
First Class mail. There will be a small amount added to the shipping
cover the cost of the padded mailer. I don't get them for free.

Please put your name and address in the message. Saves time and email
traffic!

dings, wear, and the start of some mushrooming.  The eye is good.  This
ain't pretty or perfect, but I sure ain't been seeing too many of these
bigger ones around of late in anything close to this kinda shape.  Just
saying.  $22.00

neat little tool to say the least.  $20.00

The peen has some light roughness and there is a little mushrooming
along both sides on the underside.  The punched it is good to go.  This
ain't minty, but considering the age of the tool, it sure ain't bad, and
drop it on a handle and it will get the job done.  $18.00

bad.  The face is good save for a little mushrooming and the spike is

some weld material on the undersides, but they don't look like they were
ever cracked.  The breaking edge on the side of the shaft has a few tiny
dings.  The stacked leather washer handle is good and tight.  The washer
moves a little, but the nut on the end does not.  This ain't minty, but
it's a top quality tool that will get the job done.  $35.00

at least around these here parts.  $15.00

signed as to the maker, there is an 86 stamped on the inside of the head
and on both blades.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There
is some overall frosting and some spots of light pitting.  The face has
some scratches.  The blades have some frosting and wear and will need a
little touch up.  All the screws work, but the head on the one has a
partial crack, however there is enough there to tighten and loosen it.
The tang was dressed at some point, but it works just fine in my trusty
old Spofford brace.  This ain't minty, but I sure ain't see too many
like this one.  $20.00

good condition and was cleaned.  The body has some light casting flaws
but it's solid.  The base is flat.  The indicator has a few light spots
of pitting, but the tips are good.  The screw works and was oiled.  This
ain't minty, but this is one of those tools that sure does not show up

a little.  The shaft has some pliers marks and light pitting.  The
handle scales have some stains, and the one is slightly warped at the

on one side.  The trammel and caliper tips are all good to go.  This
ain't gotta a fancy maker's name, but it's a solid tool that will get
the job done.  $35.00

cleaned.  The finish is good save for some light dings.  There are some
light scuffs on the slotted side of the face, but nothing too bad.  The
locking tab and nut are good, but it is missing the spring.  This does

E W Carpenter 1849 Patent Double Wedge Jointer Plane.  Measuring 22"
long, the iron is 2 1/2" wide, and this weighs 5 lbs 11 3/4 oz unboxed.
Emanuel W. Carpenter of Lancaster, PA was granted Pat. No. 6,226 on
March 27, 1849 for the design of this tool.  The upper mark might be a
user.  This is in reasonably good condition, I did clean up the iron and
cap a bit, and the body, I just wiped off some dust.  The body was
varnished at some point in time and there are a few dings, and another
tiny user mark behind the tote.  The wedge abutments do have small
checks, but the cheeks are good.  The screw for the second wedge works
and that does move.  The tote has some chipping on the top of the horn.
The sole has some paint, scratches, and the mouth was patched some time
in the past.  That does have some wear and and it's not perfectly flat
either.  The main wedge is good save for a few dings.  The W Butcher
double iron looks to be the original one.  That is clean on the face
other than some dings in the center.  There is some mushrooming on the
top. The cap iron has some staining and a little mushrooming on the one
side.  This ain't pristine, but we are talking about a plane that is, at
the least, 154 years old, and is probably older than that. $100.00

White Hand Forged Bark Or Debarking Spud.  Measuring 28 3/16" overall,
the head is 14 3/8" long and this weighs 2 lbs 14 3/4 oz unboxed.  This
is a common maker for this kind of tool, some folks have said that it's
L & I J White of Buffalo NY, but I've never seen one with the full mark
like they usually did.  This is in reasonably good condition for the age
and use and was cleaned. There is some overall light pitting, but then
it ain't like debarking is whatchacall an indoor sport.  The head is
good and the edges were dressed recently, except for the underside of
the hook, which will need a touch up.  The socket is good with no
cracks.  The handle is old and could be the original one.  That has some
dings, stains, and a thin grain check on the end turning, but it's
solid. It does move around in the socket, but the pin is solid.  These
guys sure have been few and far between of late.  $60.00

cleaned.  The blade is good other than a little frosting.  The tip was
dressed at some point, but it's good to go. The beech handle has some
dings, stains, and wear, but it's solid. This ain't pristine, but it

was cleaned.  There is some wear to the finish on the body.  The screw
travels the full distance and was oiled.  The tip has some staining and

this weighs 1 lb 2 1/2 oz unboxed.  Joseph Eifel of Chicago, IL was
granted Pat. No. 1,181,654 on May 02, 1916 for the design of this tool.
This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  There are a few
spots of rusting on the back, but it's good overall for the most part.
This comes with one jaw that is a mate to the fixed jaw.  Both of the
faces have some wear, but there is plenty left there.  The joint and
screwdriver tip on the one handle are also good.  This ain't pristine,
but considering the age of the tool, it sure ain't bad either.  $24.00

L S Starrett No 76 4 Inch Fay Pattern Thread Caliper.  Measuring 4 5/8"
long and this weighs 1 3/4 oz unboxed.  Charles P. Fay of Springfield,
MA was granted Pat. No. 319,215 on June 2, 1885 for the design of this
tool and Laroy S. Starrett of Athol, MA was granted Pat. No. 642,170 on
Jan. 30, 1900 for the design of the split nut. This is in decent
condition and was cleaned.  There is some frosting on the arms and a
little funky on the inside of the joint.  The spring and joint are
good.  The tips don't meet quite flush when closed.  The nut turns okay,
but the quick set doesn't want to work.  This is missing the ball on the
end of the screw.  This sure ain't minty, but then tools that are 100
plus years old rarely are and this will get the job done.  $24.00

R Marples 7 1/2 Inch Jointers Mitre Square.  Measuring 7 1/2" long and
this weighs 5 oz unboxed.  There are two Robert Marples who worked as
jointer's tool makers in Sheffield from 1837 until 1860 and then the
firm became Robert Marples & Son who were in business from 1861 until
1931, but I think this is one of the earlier marks.  There is also a
crown stamp under the user initials.  This is in decent condition and
was cleaned by somebody else.  The blade has some spots of light
pitting.  The edges are fairly good.  The mahogany handle has some
dings, but everything is tight.  This in't minty, but if it's as old as
I think that it is, it sure ain't ain't bad, and these guys sure do not
show up very often, at least around these here parts.  $30.00

Bear No MJB6 Crystolon Medium Oil Sharpening Stone & Box.  The stone is
6" long, 2" wide, 1" high, and this all weighs 15 3/4 oz unboxed.  This
is in used, but reasonably good condition and was not cleaned.  There is
a little wear on the faces, but nothing too bad, and they are both
flat.  All the edges are good.  The original box has some stains and
wear, but it's solid.  This ain't minty, but it it sure ain't bad, and
it will get the job done.  $15.00

Taylor Patent 1836 Iron 6 1/2 Inch Bitstock.  Measuring 10 1/2" long,
the sweep is 6 1/2", and this weighs 1 lb 3 1/2 oz unboxed.
Jeremy Taylor of Hebron, CT was granted Pat. No. 9,814X on June 30, 1836
for the design of this tool.  These were made by a number of makers and
this one isn't signed.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.
Overall the body is fairly good, save for some spots of light pitting.
The chuck is solid with no cracks.  The locking tab joint pint was
replaced with a cooper one at some point in time.  The spring is a
little weak, but the tab is good.  There is a hole on the back side of
the chuck where it looks like a screw was going to go, but it was never
tapped.  The pin that keeps the pad on the shaft was also replaced at
some point with a nail.  There is some play on the shaft, but it doesn't
come off. That was oiled.  This ain't minty, but then tools of this age
rarely are and these smaller sweep ones aren't very common either.  $32.00

Uncommon Hand Forged Body Fender Spoon Tool.  Measuring 11 5/8" long
(straight across), the head area is 1 11/16" wide, about 7/32" thick,
and this weighs 1 lb 1 1/4 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.
This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  There is some
light roughness left over from when this was made, but overall nothing
too bad patina wise.  The underside of the head area was polished at the
tip.  I'll tell ya what, this might not have a fancy maker's name, but
it's a solid and well made tool, and one that sure does not show up very
often.  $20.00

Vintage 9 oz Riveting Cross Peen Hammer Head.  Measuring 5 5/8" long,
the face is 9/16" square, the peen is 3/4" wide, and this weighs 9 3/4
oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker, other than the user initials
pin punched on the one side.  This is in reasonably good condition and
was cleaned by someone else.  There are some scuff marks all around and
a few small spots of light pitting.  The face is good save for some
scuffing.  The peen is also good.  The eye is ready to drop on a
handle.  This ain't perfect, but it's a good sized tool for the small
jobs.  A working old hammer head for sure!  $15.00

H H Stricker Hand Forged Felling Axe Head.  Measuring 5 15/16" long
(across the center), the edge is 3 3/4" high (straight across), and this
weighs 2 lbs 9 3/4 oz unboxed.  H H Stricker was a Vinemount PA (Berks
County) blacksmith who made tools from 1884 until 1896.  This is in
decent condition and was cleaned.  The wrought iron body has some dings
and light patina.  There is about 1/2" (at the center) of the steel bit
still left.  The poll does have some mushrooming and chipping.  I did
rule file over a few of the sharper spots there. The eye is fairly good,
the forge weld lines are visible at the front and rear on the underside,
but it's not cracked that I can see.  The one wing does have some dings
along the edge that travel into the eye.  This ain't pristine, and it
sure ain't got that kind of price tag either, but it is a very
collectible tool.  $65.00
