29651 <TWashin@A...> 1997‑10‑31 bio: Tom Washington
Hi----

I am Tom Washington, a lurker under the porch for the past couple of months.
My bio is brief because I really am an oldtool novice. I wandered over to
oldtools one night after deciding that I needed a break from the Delta vs
DeWalt thickness planer debate on rec.norm. My brother, Aubrey Washington
(an occassional porch sitter), suggested I might wander over to OldTools, so
I did. I enjoyed the conversation, so I decided to hang around.

I'm a psychologist by license (in Texas), a Louisiana resident by recent
transplant (Lanny, thanks for pointing me toward Riverside Lumber), and a
sawdust and shavings maker by night. My interest in old tools is really
based on an inherited interest (I come from a long line of pack rats) in old
stuff. My uncritical interest in old stuff became a bit more refined when I
paid a few semesters tuition to graduate school by working in an antique
restoration shop. I became fascinated with the way that old furniture had
been made, and decided I was going to build my own.

That plan was put on hold while I did the 60 - 80 hour workweek bit for a
decade. In the past few years, though, I've slowly found my way back to
woodworking. I'm slowly re-learning what I used to know about woodworking,
and re-discovering my ambition to build my projects with more sweat and less
electricity.

I'm glad to be on the porch.

Tom Washington
