One of my friends once remarked that "you have too many tools". My reply was
"No, you have too many tools." He was greatly puzzled at this and wondered
if I had gone completely off the deep end. I explained that since he NEVER
touched (or knew how to use) what few tools he filched from his father, then
he had too many because he would not miss them if his wife sold all in a
garage sale.

I've always done a lot of remodeling, buying old houses, etc. My grandfather
was a contractor who built schools and service stations all over LA, MS, south
Ark. and east TX. (He built the Japanese internment camps in south Ark.
after his whole company joined the SeaBees).

While living in Lake Charles, LA, I saw a newspaper article about a tool
display at the local library by John Ballentine. By the time I tried to go,
it had closed so I called him. John showed me all his treasures and taught
me a lot. I moved to Baton Rouge, John moved to OK. But I will never forget
the fact that John let me know that there is more to know than I can ever
learn.

Since then I have been known to take pity on some old tools, because if I
didn't rescue them and find the parts, they were doomed to be junk.
