I guess I've lurked long enough, and since I got my Galoot cap yesterday,
I should tell my story.

I live in the land of saltwater and rust, so most old tools have turned
to ferric oxide by the time I see them. I am not a collector (but SWMBO
questions whether I am really a user), but I do feel the need to make
useable and tune up whatever I can get. I have a strong weakness(???)
for chisels primarily, but also planes and knives. I believe that saws
are tools, but real sharp edge tools are works of art.

My woodworking interests lie primarily in instrument-making, particularly
guitars, but I spend more time planning and thinking than actually
making. However, I have enough long-term goals to last a couple of more
lifetimes yet. One of them is to visit the northeast US in the late
fall, so that my wife can take advantage of the Christmas feelings the
magazines talk about, and I can take advantage of being in oldtool mecca.

By day, I push paper in the Music School of the university here; by
night, I mostly play cabbie for 2 teenage daughters who do not know how
to stay in one place for longer than a half hour. On weekends, I
toolwork, and occasionally woodwork. I am also intrigued by piano-tuning
and maintenance, guitar and lute playing and computers. As far as
oldtools g , a friend picked up a Norris smoother in England for me, and
that has been a real pleasure to get working. Other than that, most of
what I have is new or WW2 vintage. One day I will get a 60,
though.......computers.

There, I did it. Hopefully, Paddy the Recuperating will now cross me off
his list of lurkers. Hope all is well Paddy, best of luck...
