au contraire, the jigs work very well for heavy grinding. Perhaps a
little honing (pun intended) of technique.
I usually don't try to take it all down in one pass. I clean up the
bevel (not all the way down if it means heavy work) and put on the micro
bevel. I use the edge for rough work. When it dulls I go back and clean
it up further and after two or three times I have it well cleaned up. I
use the blade holder for all of
it.
