Just done. This is Bodark wood also called Osage Orange. It is ridiculously tough and hard to work. Bodark famously sucks sand as it sucks water so its really hard on cutting edges. Its almost yellow when first made and looks a little like aged boxwood!! But its really a dark brown wood and will become that in a few years. The chisel was made from a file. Its a crank neck paring chisel which means the chisel lays flat on the work with clearance for your hand. Its one of the "magic wands" of woodworking. I have a surgery coming up in a week that will either fix me or kill me and I am good with that either way. I have been unable to walk and move the way I want to for almost 4 years. Plugged arteries Someone is finally going to try and fix that. His name is David. He worked his way though medical school as a carpenter. Not just another rich boy, he earned it. I made this chisel for him (I bribe doctors) haahah http://users.snowcrest.net/kitty/sgrandstaff/images/hometools/bodarkfile1.jpg yours scott -- ******************************* Scott Grandstaff Box 409 Happy Camp, Ca 96039 scottg@s... http://www.snowcrest.net/kitty/sgrandstaff/ http://www.snowcrest.net/kitty/hpages/index.html |

A beautiful piece. I am sure it will be appreciated, but I hope he doesn't confuse which profession it is most appropriate for. Probably sharp enough for either. Best wishes for a smooth recovery after a smooth surgery. *** This message was sent from a convenience email service, and the reply address(es) may not match the originating address |

Scott made another beautiful tool! I have had lots of problems with bodarc splintering on me when I work it. I had a good measure of success making a traditional archers bow out of it with draw knife, spoke shaves and scrapers. Any extra tips regarding working with it? Strong work bribing the docs! Scott I hope your surgery is fantastically successful and I pray for a speedy recovery for you. Brent Kinsey |

Maaaaaan, I wish I could move like that Scott! Mad amount of respect you have for your surgeon David there. You got plenty of good stories to tell him after he's done with you, and I bet he's saved a few of his for later as well. Hope you take time to enjoy your recovery, lad. |

Galoots- I had a hip replaced while a couple of guys were doing a remodel on my house. When I got home I was describing the surgery to the carpenters and they said, Heck, we have all those tools, we could have done it. Phil |

Good luck Scott! I hope you're getting worked on by craftsmen who measure up to the standards you've set. That would be the best. and all the best to all galoots, everywhere, gam in OlyWA How horrible it is to have so many people killed!---And what a blessing one cares for none of them! Best of luck with the surgery Scott. I'll be thinking of you. I'm sure that we would all miss your varied but immediately identifiable posts on this board if it doesn't go well. Which is not to say that my best wishes are entirely selfish. Just to note your contributions over the decades. -Mark |
